Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 29th August 2026, 2pm-4pm,
has FIVE wonderful Perth Poetry Festival feature poets
Emilie Collyer, Oormila V. Prahlad, Miranda Aitken, Giles Watson & Ender Başkan + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge & on ZOOM.
Each Festival poet will have 10-12minutes. Open-mikers will have 2minutes max.
Miranda Aitken
Bio: A poet and musician, Miranda Aitken writes intimate stories of human fragility, deep connection to nature, and the need to protect wild places. Her poetry has been published in journals, anthologies and in public art in the Southwest. In 2022 Miranda opened The Marritree in Witchcliffe, a bookshop, art and performance space devoted to poetry, music and community.
Oormila V. Prahlad
Bio: Oormila V. Prahlad is a multi-award winning Indian-Australian artist and poet whose works have appeared in Cordite Poetry Review, Black Bough Poetry (UK), The Salons and Poetry Sydney collaborations. She won the Bankstown Poetry Slam at the 2025 Sydney Writer’s Festival , the Bread and Butter Slampionship, and has been nominated multiple times for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. The author of Patchwork Fugue (Atomic Bohemian Press, UK, 2024) and A Second Life in Eighty-eight Keys. Her second full-length collection is forthcoming from 5 Islands Press in 2026. She is the inaugural Writer in Residence, Woollahra Libraries.
Giles Watson
Bio: Giles Watson lives on Menang Noongar land in Albany/Kinjarling, Western Australia, where he teaches English, Literature and Drama. He has been librettist for Mimma: A Musical of War and Friendship (performed in Perth, London and Trieste), author of A Witch's Natural History (Troy Books) and editor of Ten Poems About Butterflies (Candlestick Press). Through a variety of poetry and prose forms, his latest book, Eungedup: A Wetland Summer Diary, (Fremantle Press) explores his relationship with a site of extraordinary biodiversity as he negotiates life with chronic fatigue. His passions are history, folklore, natural history, wildlife rehabilitation and exploring wild spaces.
Emilie Collyer
Bio: Emilie Collyer lives and writes on unceded Wurundjeri Country. She has two poetry collections published by Vagabond Press: Do you have anything less domestic? (winner Five Islands Prize) and As If I’m Really There (winner Wesley Michel Wright Prize). Her poetry has twice been recognised in Gwen Harwood and Newcastle poetry prizes and in the Judith Wright poetry prize. Her play Super won the 2026 Victoria Premier’s Literary Award for Drama. She is currently under commission with The Street Theatre (Canberra). She teaches poetry and is an experienced workshop facilitator.
Ender Başkan
Bio: Ender Başkan is a poet, novelist, small-press publisher and bookseller. The winner of the 2021 Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize, his poems have been published in HEAT, Meanjin, Overland, Cordite, Unusual Work and Best of Australian Poems. His debut poetry collection Two Hundred Million Musketeers, published by Giramondo in 2025, was awarded the Anne Elder Award and shortlisted for the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards, the Prime Minister’s Literary Award and the ALS Gold Medal.
