has wonderful poets Anne Elvey (VIC) & Katie Hardwick + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge & on ZOOM.
Anne Elvey lives on unceded Bunurong Country, as a settler descendent of Irish, Scottish and English ancestry. Her poetry collections include: (C)loud: A poetic response to child sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic church (Palaver, 2025), Intents (Liquid Amber Press, 2025), Leaf (Liquid Amber Press, 2022), Obligations of voice (Recent Work Press, 2021), On arrivals of breath (Poetica Christi, 2019), White on White (Cordite Books, 2018) and Kin (Five Islands, 2014). She is editor of Cloud Climbers: Declarations through images and words for a just and ecologically sustainable peace, with artwork by William Kelly and Benjamin McKeown (Palaver, 2021). Her work spans ecological poetry and poetics, ecological feminist hermeneutics, environmental and social justice, critical biblical interpretation, and unsettling settlerdom. Katie Hardwick Bio: in her own words
‘I don't consider myself a poet, I’m more of a performer. I was born in Merredin. I moved to Kalgoorlie as a toddler then moved to Perth when I was 12.
I’ve always liked poetry. Like most Australian kids I learned the Ning Nang Nong in preschool. My dad also introduced me to the Jabberwocky as a child. As a teenager I came across Marriott Edgar, who wrote the Lion and Albert, and Spike Milligan. I like Spike Milligan mainly because his poems are mostly short.
I don’t remember how long I’ve been coming to the club. At least 10 years.
Before the club I performed in talent shows and volunteered entertaining the residents of an old people’s home. I like Perth Poetry Club because it is inclusive and there’s no pressure.‘
