.
Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 20th September, 2pm-4pm, has wonderful poets
SOUND BITES - Susanne Harford, Mar Bucknell, Kevin Gillam, Splodge, Jonathan Mustard + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge and on ZOOM

Susanne Harford
Surviving heart-failure means, conversely, Susanne now leads a life far less uncertain and chaotic. For Susanne, walking, poetry and music are life-sustaining essentials.
She did lots of growing up, and loving too, in Western Australian small mining, which, of course, no longer exists.
While times are still the same, even while they are a-changin’ . . . Susanne makes poetry communing with others they don’t even know, who they are, where they come from, having never been introduced . . .

Mar Bucknell
. . . has been making noise with poetry since 1981. It’s the best way he knows of making sense of the dreadful silence.

Kevin Gillam
Kevin is a West Australian poet and cellist. He has had four books of poetry published and is currently Chairperson of the Out of the Asylum Writers group.
Cello Bio: Cello was made by Antonio Sannino in Naples in 1890, and is number 45 of 76 constructed. Sannino also made violins and violas.

Splodge
Splodge is a mistaken object connected to a mouth that makes noises that they’d love to share.

Jonathan Mustard
For the last 30 years, Jonathan has been one of Perth's most innovative composers writing mixed media works for theatre, dance, concert and stage. A large part of his output over the last decade has been music for dance, most notably with renowned WA choreographer, Chrissie Parrott. Since the early 2000s, he has developed a practice in video and animation. Through his collaboration with Parrott, and more recently with photographer, Martine Perret, he has extended his work in this medium, providing virtual sets, lighting design elements and installations for performance and gallery environments in tandem with creating original music and sound designs.

ZOOM LAUNCH OF UNYIELDING VERSE by MAHJOUB SHARIF

Mahjoub Sharif’s body of work stretches from playful children’s songs to powerful revolutionary elegies, as well as plays and short stories for young readers. His stories and plays for children crossed languages and borders, yet much of his vast body of work still waits to be fully shared with the world.

Beloved as the “people’s poet,” Sharif blended the colloquial with the lyrical, weaving everyday life, politics, love, and play into verses that spoke to the heart of his nation. His words, sung by artists across Sudan and beyond, became songs of belonging, defiance, and hope.

Critics note that his works, popularised by renowned Sudanese singers, became anthems of national identity and resistance.

On April 2, 2014, the people of Sudan mourned his passing. He left behind more than words—he left a legacy of “courage, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to his people."
