Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Deanne Leber & Gabriela Antonini (and readings from F L E S H) + open-mike, this Saturday 3rd February, 2pm-4pm, Perth (Boorloo) time.
Deanne Leber is a Perth poet, who has published two collections of poetry: Book of Days and Constellations. Her work persists in the smallest of spaces and reaches beyond the page – or screen. She probes gaps with rhymes, sometimes stars, sometimes minutes, sometimes lines. She is constantly a rush of drafts and erasures. She is proficient in public transport and has a PhD in writing. Deanne has a lot to say about mental health, wellbeing, love and quasars. She has a lot to feel about language and the way it floods her pores. Deanne has seen her name in print, in books, journals, online, on floors and walls. She has heard her poetry above the static hum of radios tuning in. She is always searching for the unfinished thought.
Gabriela Antonini is a Slovakia-born poet, parent, writer, and martial artist based on Mooro country, where they completed their psychology and writing degree led by their passion for the intersection between arts and mental health. They’ve slammed, featured, screenwrote, scriptwrote, residencied, and even have one of their poems tattoo’d on a friend’s arm. They are drawn to collaborative, meaningful, interactive, and experimental work covering themes ranging from the painful to the playful. They have a habit of spontaneously dancing, climbing trees, having too many ideas, and seeing the poetic in the simplest of life’s moments: like even in the way your ears are tuning in to find yourself or your interests in their bio you’re currently reading.
F L E S H is a Fringe Art Exhibition featuring artwork by
Robyn Bernadt | Hugh Breslin | Chris De Sira | Shanti Gelmi | Louise Grimshaw | Rebecca Hepworth | Noel Roy Johnson | Sophie G Nixon | Charlotte Robinson
The exhibition brings together artists with diverse backgrounds and practices to explore the theme of flesh in a variety of media. Human and animal; alive and dead; familiar and strange. The exhibition raises questions about the body and aging, touch and texture, surface and skin - celebrating the biology of life and death with a touch of macabre.
.
Deanne and Gabriela have written responses to the F L E S H exhibition - and this is what they will read on the day.
