Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Kaz Campbell & Javier Bateman + open-mike, this Saturday 25th November, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café.
Kaz Campbell is a poet, writer and sky enthusiast who lives in Boorloo (Perth) and enjoys exploring the magic of words in many forms. In 2024, one of her poems will be published in Alphabet Soup Books debut anthology for children, a collaboration with Fremantle Press. Kaz was named as one of the winners in the 2023 Wild About Wetlands poetry competition and in 2022, she wrote and performed poetry for the Melville Midwinter festival and Melville Storyline’s Poetry in the Pub. One of her poems was published in a writers’ festival Connections anthology in 2020, and she had other works performed in the Busselton Fringe Festival and Short & Sweet Perth 2021, a festival of short plays.
For the past 13 years Kaz has also been writing content and presenting workshops for some of WA’s biggest brands through her business, Branch Creative.
Javier Bateman (they/he) is a twenty-four-year-old queer, chronically ill, trans-nonbinary academic, educator and poet living on unceded Whadjuk Nyungar Boodjar. He has been previously published in Australian journals such as Enby Life, Blue Bottle Journal, Sunder Journal, Two Wolves Digest, Hello Keanu and the poetry anthology Into the Wetlands alongside international journals in America. Javier's poetry deals with diverse themes of grief, gender and gender identity, love, and loss. In his (limited) downtime, Javier is often found at home consuming media about sad cowboys or deep diving into niche historical figures.
