Saturday 23rd March, Amelia Walker (SA) + open-mike! at The Moon, on Zoom

Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poet Amelia Walker plus open-mike this Saturday 23rd March, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café and on Zoom.

Amelia Walker (she/her) is a poet who lives and works on Kaurna* Yerta, also known as Adelaide, South Australia. She began writing as a teenager, inspired by local and international poets who use writing to raise social issues, particularly those of inequality, gender, the environment, and LGBTQIA+ rights.

Now forty, she has published five poetry collections, most recently alogopoiesis,** a book-as-poem exploring issues of silencing around domestic violence, mental illness, and queer heartbreak. She has also published three books of poetry writing activities for educational and community settings, based on her work as a poet in schools and with arts-health projects.

Amelia currently lectures in courses on poetry, short fiction, and literary studies at the University of South Australia, and is contracted with Bloomsbury for a forthcoming academic book about creative writing's interconnections with social power.

* “Kaurna” is pronounced “Garr-na”
** "alogopoiesis" is pronouced "a-lo-go-pieces"
