Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Deanne Leber & Angie + open-mike this Saturday 1st July, 2pm-4pm at The Moon Café and on ZOOM.
Deanne Leber is a Perth poet, who has published two collections of poetry: Book of Days and Constellations.
Her work persists in the smallest of spaces and reaches beyond the page – or screen. She probes gaps with rhymes, sometimes stars, sometimes minutes, sometimes lines.
She is constantly a rush of drafts and erasures. She is proficient in public transport and has a PhD in writing. Deanne has a lot to say about mental health, wellbeing, love and quasars.
She has a lot to feel about language and the way it floods her pores. Deanne has seen her name in print, in books, journals, online, on floors and walls.
She has heard her poetry above the static hum of radios tuning in. She is always searching for the unfinished thought.
Angie was born in North London & lived thru Swinging London virtually drug n alcohol free like most people there, at various art colleges.
Angie and family moved to WA in ‘81 under the illusion that that was better for boys, and had another baby.
She worked as cartoonist for Freo Herald from Jan ‘90 - onwards and as educational illustrator. Ran Fremantle Environment Centre from ‘85 to ’93.
Did peer support phone counselling for seven years one day a week for Parents & Family Drug Support and Next Step helping families deal with alcohol and drug use.
Spent a lot of time in Bondi where her boys lived n worked. Usually writes poetry when things are going badly. So not that prolific happily.
Not a public performer. Likes laughing. (Her poems to be read by Elio Novello)
