Saturday 8th October, Young Poets Showcase + open-mike, at The Moon, & Zoom!

This Saturday 8th October it’s Perth Poetry Festival time and open-mike at Perth Poetry Club, VIA ZOOM and at The Moon Café.

2:00pm to 4:00pm, YOUNG POETS + open-mike

we have fantastic young poets: Poppy Bell, Carter Kirkland and Keira Applegate  (more details to come as they become available)

              Plus regular open-mike (3minutes max per open-miker).

These young poets are the voices of future poetry.  They bring to our poetry readings a zest and enthusiasm that is important in keeping poetry fresh.  Through their words and their reading, the poetry community will be invigorated.  All of these poets are currently still studying at school.  They have busy lives and plenty of pressure to achieve excellent academic results before they go on to other pursuits or further study.  Nonetheless, all of them have found time to create, to explore the play of words within poetic form and to offer comment on their world.  Although they may be young poets venturing for the first time into live performance of their work, what they have to say is well worth listening to.

They will be introduced by Veronica Lake and Zac Cawdron.  Veronica and Zac are dedicated to working with Young Poets.  We have included their bios to highlight their dedication.

Veronica Lake is a teacher of Literature, and has been since before the dawn of time.  In her spare time, she edits the annual student poetry journal Primo Lux, which draws from students in high schools all over the state, and celebrates their distinctive voices and stories.  The power and creativity inherent in language are very important to her and she tries hard to pass on and celebrate it with her students.  Veroonuca is a published writer.

Zac Cawdron is a poet, artist, musician and event coordinator. He is the Chairperson of the Youth At Risk Network and a committee member of WA Poets.  At the age of 19, he self published a book called "Desolation Diaries".  He is releasing a collection called "All On Red"  this year and a collaborative art book which will come out in January.  Both will be published by Hive Mind Press.  He works to provide creative expression platforms to young people and will be introducing some young poets on Saturday.
