Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 7th May has wonderful poets Caroline Reid (SA) & William Morgan + open-mike, via ZOOM and at THE MOON CAFÉ.
Caroline Reid is a plural poet who found her feet as a writer in the theatre; who grew up in WA; and who now lives and walks on Kaurna land in South Australia. Discovering spoken word poetry and poetry slams in 2016 changed her life. Finally, an artform she felt totally at ease in. In 2018 & ‘19 she was a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam performing at the Sydney Opera House. Two years later SIARAD, her debut collection of poetry & prose, was published in print & audio. Caroline then adapted SIARAD into a one-woman spoken word theatre show which she’s performed at Fringe Festivals in S.A, and hopes to bring to the West.
Caroline was awarded the 2021 Mslexia International Poetry Prize for Women and is currently writer in residence at Mattie Furphy house. Her poetry weaves together the ordinary and the cosmic, and she writes with black-hole humour as much as possible.
William Morgan pursues a variety of passions/endeavours. At heart, he is a public speaker; and is currently training for the state-level International Speech competition for Toastmasters. His plan is to use the experience gained in the competition + the experience gained publicly reading his poetry - to create & present motivational/inspirational speeches professionally to clubs, schools, workplaces and more. William's other interests include: acting in film, script-writing, singing in choir, and nature.
His poetry is new to him and still evolving. Current prevalent themes include some of his core values, such as: gratitude, love, empathy, human connection, and mindfulness. His structure began as mostly scattered thought, and through the inspiration of certain members of the Perth Poetry Club, has evolved into more conversational and semi-narrative dynamics.
