This Saturday 26th February has wonderful poet Sally Newman + open-mike at Perth Poetry Club, VIA ZOOM and at THE MOON CAFÉ.
Sally Newman is the creative director of Lyrical Infusion and an award winning film producer, playwright and poet. New to the Perth Poetry Scene in 2021, she was quickly recognised as a powerful storyteller on the stage. Winning Perth Slam competitions and coming third in her debut at the Australian Slam Poetry Finals WA in 2021.
Newman began her writing career behind the scenes, writing original pieces for theatre, film and music projects. Accolades include winning the Blak Yak 24 hour stage challenge, Best Producer and Screens Australian commendation for her Focus on Ability International Short Films.
At a local level, she was recognised by Fringe World with her Best Community Event finalist Nomination for Woven - an interactive theatre experience about homelessness.
Last year Ms Newman also finished in the top ten selection for The WA MADE Film Festival. Perth theatre critics Gordon the Optom even likened her style to Lewis and Dylan in her inaugural theatre show Portraits.
As a writer she has a strong focus on raising awareness for causes such as domestic violence, disability inclusiveness, elder abuse, suicide prevention and other untold stories. She will educate and entertain with her raw, relatable and very emotive storytelling, whether, prose or poetry.
When asked why she shares these stories her response is "first we listen, then we talk - and that is how we learn" She encourages you all to listen more and share the conversations through the wider community. Let poetry unite.
