This Saturday 3rd August we have the wonderful poets Tony Walley + Soul Reserve and open-mike at Perth Poetry Club.
Tony Walley is a mature-aged Aboriginal man born in regional WA, and is part the Yued, Ballardong and Binjareb Noongar people of the southwest. His connection and relationship to his people, his culture, and to the land is extremely important to him; and this extends to family, spirituality, and the general health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
Tony has an extensive and varied working background, which has taken him all over the state. Tony is a father, a grandfather, a mentor, an advocate, negotiator, and a speaker and leader on native title-related issues for his family and Noongar clan groups.
He writes his own poetry, and has sought to write about matters close to his heart, his life experiences, and the many issues that affect Aboriginal people. He draws much of his writing inspiration from his daughter, mother and partner Linda. Tony loves camping, star gazing, and is a keen follower of the AFL; and loves spending time on ‘country’ with family when the opportunity arises.
Soul Reserve is an ardent writer and a wistful poet. She has written over 1000 pieces of contemporary poetry and has a great readership on her Tumblr blog - soulreserve.tumblr.com. Her published works also appear in the poetry anthology ”Across Vast Horizons”; available on Amazon.
Her poetry explores love and its tumultuousness, the fantasy and zest in nature, allegories that provoke thought and evoke tender feelings. All this belies her real profession, she’s been a software engineer for over 11 years.
Her repertoire is vast. She works as a writer for a number of organisations around Perth and beyond, including The Wetlands Centre Cockburn and Creative Native - an indigenous art gallery in the city. She’s on the roster of writers for prestigious online publications - Towards Data Science and Data Driven Investor.
