Saturday 25th of November, Jenny Blackford and Larraine Duncan!

This Saturday, it’s Jenny Blackford and Larraine Duncan as our features on 25th November 2017 at Perth Poetry Club.

Jenny Blackford writes poems and stories for people of all ages.  Her poems have appeared in Australian and international anthologies and journals including Westerly, Australian Poetry Journal, The Pedestal Magazine, Strange Horizons and Going Down Swinging.

Her first full-length poetry collection, The Loyalty of Chickens, published by Pitt Street Poetry, was launched at the Newcastle Writers Festival in April 2017, where Melinda Smith wrote, "they connect everyday life with dreams, nightmares, myths and the mystical, while maintaining a light touch and a sense of fun.  Also, cats. And palaeontology…"

Judy Johnson described The Duties of a Cat, an illustrated pamphlet of Jenny's cat poems published by Pitt Street Poetry in 2013, as "lovely, complex and thought provoking".

Jenny's most recent poetry prize was first place in the Humorous Verse section of the Henry Lawson Awards 2017.  She won two prizes in the Scarlet Stiletto Short Story Awards 2016 for a murder mystery set in classical Delphi, with water nymphs.  In 2014 she was awarded third in the ACU Prize for Literature 2014, for which she had two poems shortlisted in 2015 and one in 2017.

Her website is www.jennyblackford.com.

Larraine Duncan has been interested in words for as long as she can remember. Larraine started writing poetry back in the 70's.  She had a column in a Community Newspaper; as a drama writer had two of her scripts staged; and written various short stories.  But she realised that her most happy expression of these words was in poetry.

Larraine has had haiku published in Paper Wasp and poetry published in Creatrix.  She self- published her poetry book, Dancing with Seasons, in 2014. Now lives in Bali, where she continues with her love of words by learning Indonesian and also continuing to create poetry.

Please join us to hear Jenny Blackford + Larraine Duncan this Saturday afternoon 2pm-4pm at the Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge.
