Saturday 21st of October, celebrating Emily Dickinson with Christine Della Vedova and Ann Gilchrist!

This Saturday, it’s Emily Dickinson, courtesy of Christine Della Vedova and Ann Gilchrist as our features, 21st October 2017 at Perth Poetry Club.

Emily Dickinson is regarded as one of America’s greatest poet, but this seems at odds with her personal life and the fact that very few of her poems were published in her life time.  Her poems are unique for the era in which she wrote; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Considered an eccentric by locals, she developed a noted penchant for white clothing and you are encouraged to wear white this Saturday.

Emily is an enigma and she will brought to life by Christine Della Vedova and Ann Gilchrist.

Christine Della Vedova is is a Perth performance poet who loves devouring literature in the fantasy genre, including the Earthsea series, the Narnia Chronicles and yes, the Harry Potter books. Christine loves the fantastical aspect of poetry and the way that certain combinations of phonological sounds can briefly transport one to another world.  When she’s not riding direwolves or walking through wardrobes, she’s indoctrinating kidlets of various ages with a love of poetry and literature. She performs on a non-regular basis at Perth Poetry Club, Voicebox and Spoken Word.

Ann Gilchrist spent her childhood on the banks of the Firth of Forth in Fife, Scotland.  She came to WA when she was 24.  She won her first award for poetry in primary school and has been waiting for another ever since.  Ann loves to capture visual images of moments, memories and landscapes in poetry. She views her poems as canvases that don't need wall space.  Creativity is an important part of her life - it helps to keep her relatively sane.

Join us to hear two engaging performers Christine Della Vedova and Ann Gilchrist, and learn a bit about Emily Dickinson this Saturday afternoon 2pm-4pm at the Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge.  Don’t forget to wear white.
