Saturday 6th of May, Ron Okely and Will Leach!

We have two poets bridging the generations, Ron Okely and Will Leach, this Saturday 6th May 2017 at Perth Poetry Club.

Ron Okely’s (pictured left) poetry is tied up in experience. He was born in Bassendean 1929, mother a school teacher, father a boiler maker & a champion sweet pea grower.  Did primary and secondary schooling, served as a telephone technician then twenty years as a Methodist Minister.  Married Rona Lockhart 1954, brought up a family of four in various country towns, Lake Grace to Port Hedland then back to Perth in 1971.

Ron completed a Degree in Social Work at Curtin Uni (scrubbed floors at the Uni to keep the family fed, last two years won a cadetship to Royal Perth Hospital Dept of Social Work), and went to work at R.P.H. in 1974, ending up as Deputy Chief before retiring in 1987.  Meanwhile Rona became C.E.O. Gosnells Community Legal Centre and eventually Chairperson Motor Vehicle Dealers’ board.  His eldest son John became a Kalgoorlie Cop later to retire to Ludlow to run a small wildlife sanctuary.  John died at Ludlow aged 60.  Unfortunately Rona died a year after John.

Some of Ron's poems reflect these events.  Ron is very grateful to the Mob at the Moon over these last few years for their friendship and support.

Will Leach (pictured right) is a poet, originally from the UK. He acquainted himself with spoken word through the open mics of the London poetry scene before moving to Perth in 2014. Since then you may have caught Will competing in slams or sharing his words on the occasional open mic.

Will is a trained actor, and this shines through in his delivery. He loves telling stories and playing with words. Will is fresh from his feature with Spoken Word Perth and the launch of his first chapbook "Dog Food Lid".

Please join us at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge this Saturday 2pm-4pm to hear Ron Okely and Will Leach.  Open-mike as always.
